Round 18 Junior Netball Match Reports

Our fantastic junior netball squads were lucky enough to play last Saturday against Barnawartha . Even without the usual atmosphere all girls played amazing and have all made the saints family super proud of them all. Well done Saints!!

Midgets

The Midgets had a fantastic game against Barnawartha with wet and slippery conditions. The girls all went out each quarter and worked on the skill or team goal that I gave them and it really showed with Saints controlling the game. Our defensive pressure was fantastic with lots of turn overs and intercepts by all players. The girls had a great win 6-4. AWARDS: Kaitlyn who improves every week and always tries to do what is asked of her. She got many intercepts and had a brilliant game in WD. Ava - had a wonderful attacking game playing in shooting and Centre. She encouraged her team mates and created a lot of space for her team. Charlize - in a return from injury had a strong game in defence getting many rebounds and intercepts to stop the strong Barny attackers from scoring.

13’s & Under

The girls were fired up this week with determination to beat Barny by a bigger margin than last time. With a drizzly day and no crowd, it was a strange atmosphere to play. However, the girls rallied together and after a tough fight, came away with a solid win- final score 22 to 15. Best on court: Effies’s Take Away - Charlee Bradsworth-Kerr, 2nd with Rock’n’roll Roast - Millie Black, 3rd with Saints Canteen Voucher -Zoe McFarland.

We just can’t seem to get over Barney. What a great outfit they are. The first half seen our attack end really struggle. Our passing options weren’t great and our timing seemed a little off. Defensively, we won a bit of ball but just couldn’t convert it. The score line didn’t show it but our second half, I feel that the girls played a more defensive game right down the court, getting fingers on more ball and chasing loose ball. BOC went to Jada who never stops. Her ability to read the play and attack space is very impressive from such a young player. Lily Barry keeps getting better and better each week, really owning that GK bib when given the opportunity. She always has her ears open, and puts into practice everything that is asked from her. She also happened to be our highest scoring goaler for the day, shooting 8/10, proving to be very versatile. Also, Maia with her great three feet, over arm pressure and some good ball wins. A quick shoutout to Holly who sported the GD bib, taking 2 intercepts in the final qrt, after Emily went down on her left knee. Not too bad for an attacker. That rounds out the awards. As always, very proud of the girls who fight to the final whistle week in week out, whether we are in front or behind.

18’s & Under

After a few weeks off, what a match up it was to play Barny. A wet court and wet ball made the game play change. The game was slower and more of a physical game. Barny came out strong and looking for a win, however our girls just had the next level to take it from two goals down in the last 2 minutes of the game. Stella performance from defence down court and especially in our defence end. We have been working hard on feet and getting off the ground and it’s starting to show. A great team win and let’s keep moving forward. Best on Stephanie, Beth, Emily
