Round 14 Saints V's Mitta

A Massive Congratulations to Emily Williamson on playing her 100th game for the Wodonga Saints what a milestone to have achieved, and to top is off with a win is even better.

fantastic effort Emily Your a super star!!

With only one training session in for the girls and under strict COVID restrictions this weekend’s games felt a little different. With no spectators and no football meant the feel on court was a little strange. Huge thank you to all the committee and Cam our fabulous trainer for being at the courts super early to give us hand throughout the day. Super proud of Saints family.

It was fantastic to be back on court this week after lockdown against Mitta. The girls were excited to be back playing also. With three weeks to go the girls took the challenge again playing new positions when given the opportunity. Hannah was excited to score a goal playing in GS, Amity had a run in WA and got lots of passes and intercepts. Emma supported well in WA and moved the ball into our shooters.

Ajla and Tilly combined well in goals together and Ajla also had a run for the first time in Centre. Kaitlyn continues to improve in the centre court and Charlize was strong in defence. Isla played a strong game in centre and WA and then made her debut in Goal keeper gaining some rebounds and intercepts. Ava kept the attack busy and stopped the ball coming into the ring playing GD. It was a great team effort.

13’s & Under

The girls were very keen to get back into netball, even though it was weird again with no spectators. The team played well together and were consistent throughout the four quarters, with them all having minimal unforced errors in their play. Emily Dudley had the strongest game we've seen her have, with 3 strong quarters as GS nabbing her an impressive 17 goals. She definitely earned her Best On Court Effie's Takeway Award. Dakota O'Brien also had her best game, with great drive to the ball, intercepts and a clear improvement on her foot work and passes. She clearly deserved her Canteen Award for second Best on Court. A great win with a final score of 32:8

15’s & Under

The girls worked well under pressure today. And with the rain and slippery court made it hard for the girls to find their feet. The defence end worked well and made the Mitta shooters have to work for every ball. Mid court worked hard and re- offered through the court. Our goalers had to work hard to get in front and use the circle. There were brilliant passages of play and the girls should be super proud of themselves Best on court went to Ava who did a fabulous job getting her feet around her player and getter beautiful rebounds and intercepts. Second went to Holly with beautiful movement through the circle and defensive pressure down the court was impressive - Third went to Jada for her tireless running in mid court. Always re offering and putting her body on the line.

18’s & Under

Well the game against Mitta after lock down just didn’t go our way. We pushed hard but with some easy mistakes and our lack of consistency to push through from being behind just didn’t get us over the line. Steph and Bethany were our best on for the game. The showed a strong work ethic the entire game, had the teams back and kept pushing through. As a coach I am super proud of these girls and they have worked super hard at training all season and we are looking forward to finishing this season strong and be physically and mentally ready to tackle finals. Well done girls.

C Grade

Being a bit rusty from another lockdown but the team got the job done and came away with a 5 goal win. Mitta came out strong being a different team to when we first played them which we did not expect.

Unfortunately our superstar GA, Bec, went down in the first quarter injuring her ankle and our 15s player, Holly, came on court with a lot of composure from someone so young. Between Holly and Ebony, who is a 18s player, that GA position was in good hands and they played strong games. Shynae also did amazing in defence getting her hands on everything that went her way. Best on went to Adrianne in GS, without Bec she took control of that circle with the juniors and created great movement. Second award went to Elisabeth who always owns that WA position with her calmness, strong feeds and defensive pressure.

B Grade

After a few weeks of and no training, it was wonderful being back on the court. It was a tough game against Mitta, however saints kept fighting till the end. Our defence worked beautifully and tirelessly all game. Our attacking end had a tough day against strong opposition but they kept their heads high and the positivity was amazing. Best on went to Kaly Smith, who had a stand-out game in GD. Urban Graze award went to Wendy Ball, in WD who shut down space and worked hard bringing the ball to our attacking end.

A Grade

We knew this game was going to be tough hit out and will minimal training the girls did their best to control the game. With a few rotational changes through the court we needed height in defence and moved Rachel into defence to try and shut down the height. She did a fantastic and job and limited the amount of goals through the second quarter. Our defence end once again had a fantastic job making it hard for Mitta to hit their targets. Mid court still need to work on our decision making as this limited the amount we could have scored off. Dani had to work extra hard this week with some feeds into the circle needing to be on point and on the move. Super proud of the girls. Players Player went to Rachel – second went to Meg Vardy who took some sensational intercepts and works brilliantly with Taylor Morey in the ring.
