#wodongasaints#saintsfamily#weareonein2021

A massive shout out to two of our junior players who took the court in A grade today.. our future looks brighter when you have juniors hitting the court and not looking out of place. I have watched these girls come through the grades and they have consistently worked hard and improved every year. Hats off to their coaches for mentoring these girls all the way. Well done Bethany White and Sophie Jefferson.

Seniors vs Yackandandah

With an injury list as long as the Flemington straight it was always going to be a tough old day coming up against a quality side in Yack. With players missing it presented opportunity to Coen Cooper and Zac Mills who both played there first senior game for the club. Jesse Anderson-Clarke was our standout on the day as he gathered possession after possession and threw himself into everything. Nic Wood has continued his solid form by putting in another brave performance down back with his attack on the footy first class. Zac Nichols, Zac Warren-Marmo and Mitch Horner all were solid contributors on the day. Harrison Witt at just 17 years old played his best game for the club in what is a huge stepping stone for his future development.

Best: J. Anderson-Clarke, N. Wood, H. Witt, Z. Warren-Marmo, Z. Nichols, M. Horner.

Wodonga Saints vs Yackandandah

With only 16 boys on the park and no rotations, it was always going to be a hard day at the office. All credit to our boys, we did not forfeit like other clubs and we played our hearts out. There was no doubt about our commitment to the contest or each other.

In order to field a side, our trainer, Cam Middleton (who took home the players mug), Vice President Dan Bradley and his son Riley Peerman (Pizza award) all took the field.

Zac Mack stood up and was solid all day.

VB could not help himself and took on the midfield challenge and Brett smashed it in the ruck with Dools.

We focused on small wins for the day and each small task, we were able to execute.

Credit where credit is due. Yack were far too good and we certainly took things away from their play, that we need to continue to work on at training. So get around it boys and we will see you all at training Tuesday.

Remember, if you are injured, you are still required at training as Cam has put together an awesome training schedule for you also.

Best players: Z. Mc Donald, B. Easton, R. Doolan, J. Campbell, A. Walsh, L. Verbaan-Fletcher

Midgets

A solid effort from our girls today saw them have a strong win. They are improving each week and had some fabulous plays down court and great defensive pressure. Overall a great team effort. Awards: Isla, Ivy, Emma & Tilly.

13’s & Under

The game against Yackandandah started off a little stressful, with the girls only being 1 goal up at quarter time. After being given a goal to focus on each quarter, the girls really seemed to get their game together and work as a cohesive team. Extending the lead by 4 goals at half time, they were then able to really consolidate their play to lead by 12 at three quarter time, then win the game convincingly with a final score of 29:5. Best on court was Lily Jones - awarded the Effie's Take-Away voucher for her impressive intercepts and drives to the ball in defence. The next on court, with a Rock'N'Roll Roasts aware was Charlee Bradsworth-Kerr. She's a strong defensive player with impressive intensive focus all 4 quarters.

15’s & Under

What more can I say except the girls were fantastic today against Yack. A few silly errors early in the first, had me a little worried but the girls were able to regather and sort it out. Mia took the court in GA playing her 50th and came out with a hot hand. Her defensive pressure and smart play saw her take out BOC. Mia was supported nicely by Savannah and our other award winner, Holly. I think after being a little hot and cold over past weeks that Holly had something to prove. Going into GS in the 3rd down by 4, she was patient, composed and very determined to lead the team home with a win. Jada was fantastic again in our mid court and was unlucky to miss out on an award. I could go on about every single girl who took the court but I will just say, I am so super proud how these girls chased, fell, led, tied, kept their composure, held their heads up and played with great attitudes to turn what could have been a painstakingly loss into a 7 goal win. And that girls is now the bench mark of how we should be playing. Well done girls

18’s & Under

Another win under the belt for the girls. The last half of the game saw Yack come home strong and decreased the score line. We need to continue being strong through the last half especially coming into finals. AJ smashed it in WD applying pressure and just hassling her player the entire game which saw her get best on court! Second award went to Emily Morey for continuing her great defence and footwork skills we have been working on. This team is amazing and as a coach I adore each and every one of them. They work hard week in week out and continue to amaze me. Keep pushing girls and enjoy your netball.

C Grade

What a game! We were so close in getting the win but Yackandandah's stamina outdid us in the last quarter. We had Adrianne and Alex back on court this week, their presence were missed the previous week.

Our last 2 games were not our best and this week we had to prove that we still could still play like we did in the first half of the season. Even though it was a loss, it was definitely played a more controlled game with strong passages of play and fantastic defensive pressure all down the court. Best on when to Emily, she found another gear in the mid court today and played a stellar game. Urban graze award went to Tess, our other mid courter, who was focused and trusted in herself this week and her game went to the next level because of it.

B Grade

Today was a tough game, but you all kept your head held high and kept fighting the entire game. There were passages of brilliant netball, amazing defence and attack. Best on went to Kristal Slade who was on fire today, rebounds, intercepts and made life hard for her opponent. Second award went to @Amy Baker who showed her fighting spirit and had a blinder on a game. Third award went to our captain Romni Feltwell who just didn't give up the entire game. Well done ladies. Xx

A Grade

Well it wasn’t our best game, but we came away from the game with a little more fight in our bellies. Well done to our junior superstars coming onto the court today – Sophie Jefferson and Bethany White. They did a fantastic job up against some of the best netballers in the league. Our midcourt held their own with some beautiful contested play. Defence end did an outstanding job and slowly closed the shooting circle down. Our gaolers had to work hard and felt every ball with yack contesting every pass. Best on Court went to Meg Vardy who took some beautiful intercepts and to Danielle for her movement and control through the game.
