Round 1 Dederang Mt Beauty v Saints – Football Results

SENIOR MATCH REPORT

Disappointing result on the weekend but certainly gave us a lot to work on.

The new and improved Dederang got off to a great start from the get go and gave us no chance to settle in together as a new side.

Our pressure in the first was non existent as well as our commitment at the ball and we looked like a team that was thrown together at the 12th hour, giving away 6 goals to our 1 point from 10 inside 50’s.

The second quarter showed some improvement with us holding them out and having a very even quarter with 2 goals a piece but it was our entry into the forwards that really let us down, 15 inside 50 and only 2 majors. We need to allow room in there for our forwards to do their job, not having big forwards in the past had us crowding and leaving no room to move.

Our 3rd quarter showed our game plan works and we combined really well finally hitting our targets, and that came from the pressure applied across the ground with a massive 25 tackles, leaving Dederang shell shocked after our performance in the first half. We had 17 inside 50 and added 4 goals 6 winning the quarter but needed our conversion to be higher.

Early in the 4th we missed 2 scoring opportunities and had the ball rebound straight from end to end with a goal turning the momentum back to Dederang which they continued on with.

Fantastic signs for us with Jesse Clarke Anderson running riot all day, Cameron Gilcrist and Bart Thompson strong in defence, Hayden Hamilton finding the goals, Sam Huxtable rock solid performance and Nic Wood with his experience coming away with leather poisoning.

Special mention to Bailey Dixon who debuted this week at just 15, the future of our club!!

Have things to work on but the base is there for a positive year guys.

GOALS: H Hamilton 3, J Anderson 2, K Short and L Knight 1 each.

BEST: J Anderson, N Wood, B Thompson, C Gilcrist, S Huxtable.
