2017 Round 1 – 6 grades all getting the 4 points

A Grade

What a day! All round! With 6 grades all getting the 4 points!
A Grades nerves were at an all time high heading into round 1 which showed in the attacking end! To the girls credit they kept going! Walking away with a 1 goal win!
It goes to show how far these girls have come in such a short period and once they settle, the wins will keep on rolling!
Georgia Ross was awarded best on court! She was given a job, she did it and she looked mint doing so!
Jess McAliece wore the red, white and black for the first time today and clearly the colours are doing her justice! She played her heart out and was everywhere on the court and feeding the goalies like Kim Green!
Kristal Slade was as solid as the Berlin Wall down in defence! Intercepting and clearing that ball like a Melbourne Vixen! She was also voted players player by her team mates!
Well done girls and we will head into next weekend more confident in our ability and will have shaken those nerves!

B Grade

Wow girls hasn’t there been a change from the practice matches. Confidence, consistent and Calm is all I can say for Saturday. The ladys worked hard all through the court. And with multiple changes throughout the game which didn’t change the game play at all. Obviously we all have some work to fine tune our moves but cannot be happier with the girls. Best on court this week went to Emily Wheaton, Samantha Reeves and Wendy kolisnyk

C Grade

Wodonga Saints 29 def Beechworth 21
Our first game of the season saw the Saints head to Beechworth to take on the Bushies.
C – grade girls made a nervous start but by the end of the first quarter they had settled into their own rhythm and game plan.
The girls lead at every change and never looked in any doubt of bringing the win home.
We had quite a few girls take to the court for the first time in the Saints colours. With one girl taking to the court for her very first game of netball ever. If she had any nerves or reservations, it certainly didn’t show. We lost count of the amount of intercepts this girl took. What a way to make a debut to netball. Congratulations Sinead Coleiro.
The wind tested our shooters initially with a couple of wayward shots, but to their credit they adjusted well and combined beautifully under the ring.
Our mid court stood strong and transitioned the ball strongly from end to end. Emily Williamson played a starring role around the circle and provided our shooters with consistently strong feeds into the ring.
Our defence was solid from the start, with Chloe Greaber leading the way. Her hands were on and over every ball that came her way with her defensive pressure often causing trouble for Beechworth’s shooters.
Well done girls. Such a strong team effort to start the season off.

18 & Under

Wow what a change these girls have gone through. We have started this season with a young group of girls that will hopefully stick together for a couple of years. We have worked hard over the preseason with multiple practise matches to get there head in the game. Saturday was very exciting and nerves really did win on the day.. The girls held onto to their lead from the start and powered through till the end.. Best on this week went to Jaylah Daunt, Lily Besic and Taya Davey.

15 & Under

The 15’s Wodonga Saints had perfect playing conditions for their first game of the season. We had a fantastic game against Beechworth and had some good connections throughout the court, there were lots of really good performances on the day. Best players – Hungry Jacks Award – Sarah Harry, Twin Cities Ten Pin Bowl Award- Molly Ryan, Saints Drink Bottle – Georgia Reed

13 & Under

What a stellar performance from our 13’s. They went out strong from the start and finished strong winning very convincingly. There was awesome play down court by everyone, great shooting from Sophie and kytlee, and top defensive pressure from Shelby and Chloe. Let’s keep working hard and playing as a team and enjoying yourselves on court and you all can achieve anything! Here is to another great game today!
